Camino de migración rápida y sencilla de JetForm a DocPath

La sede dominicana de un importante banco (no nos está permitido revelar su nombre) con gran presencia internacional decidió migrar su sistema documental basado en el software JetForm a la tecnología de DocPath, para asegurar la continuidad de los diseños de sus formularios y, a la vez, optimizar sus procesos documentales.

Necesidad de cambio

El software JetForm / Adobe Central Server, que actualmente es propiedad de Adobe Systems Inc., fue uno de los primeros productos de software documental que permitió el diseño y la generación de documentos de negocio en impresoras láser de sobremesa. Su éxito fue rotundo y lo llevó a ser implementado por numerosas compañías en todo el mundo. Sin embargo, los usuarios que aún utilizan esa tecnología se encuentran ahora ante la necesidad de encontrar una alternativa.

Este es el caso de la sede dominicana de un importante banco internacional, se vio recientemente ante la necesidad de buscar un nuevo software documental cuando su software JetForm dejó de funcionar correctamente al actualizar su servidor AS400 a la versión IBM i V7R2. El banco usaba JetForm para el diseño de sus formularios y la generación de documentos en formato PCL para impresión. La generación de documentos se llevaba a cabo manualmente en tiempo real por los propios usuarios.

Después de examinar diferentes alternativas, el banco decidió implementar la tecnología de DocPath, líder en software de Customer Communications Management, con el objetivo de reemplazar su software de JetForm, así como para facilitar y automatizar al máximo el proceso documental en todas sus etapas.

Proyecto documental en fases

El proyecto consistió en diferentes fases. Durante la primera fase, los expertos de DocPath realizaron un análisis de la infraestructura tecnológica y de las necesidades concretas del cliente para poder garantizar una correcta implementación del nuevo software.

En una segunda fase, un experto de DocPath se desplazó a la sede del banco para implementar el software de DocPath en el nuevo servidor AS400 del cliente y convertir todos los diseños de formularios existentes creados con JetForm a formularios compatibles con DocPath.

Después, el equipo de diseño y el grupo de automatización del banco recibieron formación específica para el correcto uso del software de DocPath. Y finalmente, el proyecto pasó a la fase de producción a mediados del año 2016, cuando el banco decidió eliminar todos los procesos realizados con JetForm mediante el antiguo servidor AS400 y empezó a generar todos sus documentos con DocPath.

Una solución para todas las oficinas

Las soluciones de software documental de DocPath elegida por el banco fue la solución concreta para migración desde JetForm en combinación con Remote Office Printing para System i (AS400). Se trata de una solución de impresión integral específica para redes amplias de oficinas que permite a los usuarios solicitar, de manera remota y visual, la generación de un documento en tiempo real, para poder imprimirlo o visualizarlo al instante. Además, DocPath Remote Office Printing se integra fácilmente con las aplicaciones de negocio existentes, tal y como demuestra este proyecto llevado a cabo en la República Dominicana.

Por otra parte, los diferentes esquemas de implementación posibles solucionan el alto consumo de ancho de banda que se suele producir en redes en los que se envían para impresión gran cantidad de documentos o archivos pesados en formato PCL o PDF.

Diseño e impresión ágil

La sede dominicana del banco internacional ha empezado a utilizar la solución software documental de DocPath desde mediados del 2016. Actualmente, usa la tecnología de DocPath para modificar puntualmente el diseño de formularios creados anteriormente con JetForm y para diseñar formularios completamente nuevos, siempre mediante la herramienta de diseño visual de DocPath en plataformas Windows.

Por otro lado, el banco sigue generando sus documentos en formato PCL en tiempo real, con la posibilidad de añadir otros formatos de salida cuando sus necesidades de negocio lo requieran. El motor de generación de DocPath permite que cada uno de los usuarios del banco, ya sean administrativos, agentes o intermediarios, pueda solicitar la creación, visualización e impresión instantánea de un documento con un solo clic del ratón.
